Connecting or disconnecting a domain to/from an IP address
In Sendigram, each sending domain must be associated with an IP address. This link determines which server your emails are sent from and plays a key role in deliverability and sender reputation. You can connect your domain to either a shared IP or a dedicated IP, and later disconnect it if needed.
1. Why Domains Need IP Connections
- An IP address is the technical "source" of your emails.
- Connecting your domain to an IP ensures:
- Proper authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
- Better inbox placement through consistent sender identity.
- The ability to track and manage your sending reputation.
2. Connecting a Domain to an IP
- Log in to your Sendigram account.
- Go to Go to Sender Settings.
- Select the domain you want to connect.
- Choose Assign IP (shared or dedicated).
- If you have a dedicated IP, select it from the list; otherwise, the system will assign a shared IP automatically.
- Save changes.
After connecting, verify that DNS records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) are correctly configured for your domain.
3. Disconnecting a Domain from an IP
If a domain is no longer in use:
- Go to Go to Sender Settings.
- Find the domain you want to disconnect.
- Click Disconnect from IP.
- Confirm your choice.
- The domain will no longer send emails until it is reconnected to an IP.
- Any active campaigns linked to this domain must be updated with a new sender domain before sending.
4. Best Practices
- Always keep at least one verified domain connected to an IP before running campaigns.
- Use subdomains (e.g., mail.yourcompany.com) for marketing emails to protect your root domain's reputation.
- If switching from shared to dedicated IP, plan for a warming-up period to build reputation gradually.
- Disconnect domains that are no longer relevant to keep your account organized.
5. Troubleshooting
- If you cannot connect a domain, check whether it is already assigned to another IP.
- If DNS records are missing or incorrect, verification will fail.
- Contact Sendigram Support if your dedicated IP does not appear in the list.
