How to Create a Segment
In Sendigram, a Segment is a dynamic list of contacts that precisely matches specific conditions you define.
Unlike static groups, segments automatically grow or shrink as contacts meet or fail to meet your criteria.
For example, you can create a segment of "only men" or "all contacts from the USA".
Setting Up Segment Conditions
Segments are built using Conditions — the parameters and characteristics used to filter your audience.
You can filter contacts based on various data points:
- Basic Information: Email address, First Name, and Last Name.
- Personal & Demographics: Gender (male or female) and Geo (Country and City).
- Custom Fields: Any unique custom parameters (fields) you have created for your subscribers.
Behavioral Filtering and Time Periods
You can also segment users based on their engagement with your campaigns.
For behavioral conditions, Sendigram allows you to apply an automatic time period filter.
This applies to actions such as:
- Emails sent
- Emails delivered
- Email opens
- Clicks
- Hard bounces
- Soft bounces
- Spam complaints
When using these conditions, you can select from the following timeframes:
- All time
- Fixed period: Selecting specific start and end dates (From YEAR-MM-DD to YEAR-MM-DD)
- Last 30 days
Creating the Segment
While the process can be accessed from different areas in the platform, setting up a segment generally involves the following flow:
- Click the button to Set up conditions.
- A window will open allowing you to configure the specific parameters for your segment.
- Configure your first parameter and save it, or add additional parameters to narrow down your audience further.
- Save your configuration to establish the segment.
Viewing Your Segment
Once created, you can view your segment in the dashboard, which displays:
- The segment's name
- The total number of contacts in the segment
- The percentage of active contacts relative to the total segment size
- The date the segment was created
If you need to quickly review how a segment is built, you can click on the "Conditions" element for that segment.
This will launch a window listing all the active parameters (up to a maximum of 10 conditions in the quick-view window).
