Adding GoDaddy domain

If your domain is registered at GoDaddy, you connect it to Sendigram by adding six DNS records in your GoDaddy account. It takes about 10 minutes, and verification usually completes within an hour.

Once your domain is verified, your emails are sent from your own domain and pass the SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks that Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook require from bulk senders.

Before you start, make sure you have:

  • Access to the GoDaddy account where your domain is registered
  • A Sendigram account
  • Your domain using GoDaddy nameservers. If your DNS is managed elsewhere (for example, Cloudflare or your website builder), add the records there instead. See Troubleshooting below.

Step 1. Add your domain in Sendigram

  1. Sign in to Sendigram.
  2. Open the profile menu and select Sender settings.
  3. Click Add domain.
  4. Enter your domain name, for example yourbrand.com, and confirm.

Sendigram shows the DNS records for your domain. Keep this window open, or come back to it later from the domain's View action. You will copy each record into GoDaddy in Step 3.

Step 2. Open your DNS records in GoDaddy

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy account in a new browser tab.
  2. Go to your Domain Portfolio and select the domain you added in Sendigram.
  3. Select DNS to view the domain's DNS records.

You will see a list of existing records. Leave them as they are. You only need to add new ones.

Step 3. Add the Sendigram records in GoDaddy

Add all six records from Sendigram: three DKIM records, one MX record, one SPF record and one DMARC record. For each one:

  1. In GoDaddy, click Add New Record.
  2. Select the record Type shown in Sendigram.
  3. Fill in Name and Value (and Priority for the MX record) as described in the table below.
  4. Leave TTL at the default.
  5. Click Save. To add several records at once, use Add More Records before saving.

Important: GoDaddy adds your domain to the Name automatically. If Sendigram shows a host such as sendigram.yourbrand.com, enter only sendigram in GoDaddy. Otherwise the record ends up at sendigram.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com and verification fails.

Record Type in GoDaddy Name in GoDaddy Value in GoDaddy
DKIM (x3) CNAME The part before your domain, ending in ._domainkey Copy from Sendigram, one value per record
MX MX sendigram feedback-smtp.us-east-1.amazonses.com, Priority 10
SPF TXT sendigram v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all
DMARC TXT _dmarc v=DMARC1; p=none;

Always copy the values from your own Sendigram window. The table shows how each field maps, so check your screen if anything differs.

Already have an SPF record? You don't need to change it. Sendigram's SPF record sits on the sendigram subdomain, not on your root domain, so it doesn't conflict with your existing one.

Already have a DMARC record? If GoDaddy already lists a TXT record named _dmarc, keep it and skip the Sendigram DMARC record. A domain can only have one DMARC record.

If your domain has GoDaddy Domain Protection turned on, GoDaddy asks you to verify your identity before saving.

Step 4. Verify your domain in Sendigram

  1. Go back to Sendigram and open Sender settings.
  2. Find your domain and click Check DNS records.

Most GoDaddy DNS changes take effect within an hour, but they can take up to 48 hours to spread globally. If the check doesn't pass right away, wait a while and click Check DNS records again.

Once your domain is verified, add a sender address on that domain in the Sender address tab and start sending.

Troubleshooting

  • Verification still fails after 48 hours. Open the DNS records in GoDaddy and compare each one with Sendigram, character by character. The most common cause is the domain repeated in the Name field (see Step 3). Also check for extra spaces at the start or end of a Value.
  • GoDaddy doesn't let you edit DNS records. Your domain probably uses nameservers from another provider, such as Cloudflare, Squarespace, Wix or your hosting company. GoDaddy then shows a notice that your DNS is managed elsewhere. Add the six records at that provider instead.
  • GoDaddy says the record already exists. A record with the same Name and Type is already there. For _dmarc, keep the existing record. For any other record, check whether it was left from an earlier attempt and edit it to match Sendigram rather than adding a duplicate.
  • A CNAME record can't be saved. A CNAME can't share its Name with any other record. Make sure no A, TXT or MX record already uses the same ._domainkey name.
  • Still stuck? Contact Sendigram support and include your domain name and a screenshot of your GoDaddy DNS records.
