WordPress: Getting Started
Welcome to Sendigram Mail, a WordPress plugin that connects your website directly to the Sendigram EMS platform for managing campaigns, contacts, and forms.
Currently in version 1.0.0, the plugin focuses on allowing you to seamlessly synchronize your WordPress users into Sendigram.
Requirements
Before installing the plugin, please ensure your hosting environment and WordPress setup meet the following minimum requirements:
- WordPress version: 6.2 or higher.
- PHP version: 7.4 or higher.
- User capability: You must have administrator privileges (manage_options).
- Sendigram account: You need a free or paid Sendigram account with an issued API key.
- WP-Cron: A working WP-Cron is required for background synchronization, which is enabled by default on most hosts.
Installation Steps
- Install the plugin by uploading the Sendigram Mail ZIP file or by finding it in the WordPress plugin catalog.
- Activate the plugin under the Plugins menu.
- Once activated, a new Sendigram Mail item featuring an envelope icon will appear in your left-hand admin menu.
When you activate the plugin, it will automatically check to ensure your system meets the PHP and WordPress requirements. If the requirements are not met, the activation will abort and display a clear error message. It also creates default settings in a way that ensures your existing data is never erased if you need to reactivate the plugin later.
Setting up the connection
To link your website to Sendigram, click on the Sendigram Mail menu item in your WordPress admin dashboard to open the two-step onboarding screen.
Step 1: Create your account
- If you are new to the platform, click the Create account button to sign up for a free Sendigram account.
- If you already have an account, simply click Log in.
Step 2: Connect with API key
- Click the "Get your API key" link to retrieve your personal access token from your Sendigram dashboard.
- Paste your key into the API key field. You can click the eye icon to show or hide the key while pasting.
- Click the Connect button.
The plugin will securely validate your key using Sendigram's API. If the connection is successful, your status will change to Connected and the API key will be safely masked on your screen, showing only the last 4 characters. If the key is rejected or the service is unreachable, your settings will remain unchanged and you will see an error message.
Users Synchronization
Once you have successfully connected your API key, the Users Synchronization card will appear in your plugin dashboard. This feature is designed to export your WordPress users and turn them into Sendigram contacts.
- Field Mapping: The synchronization process includes field mapping to ensure your user data lines up perfectly with your Sendigram contact fields.
- Background Processing: The plugin schedules an hourly background reconciliation job using WordPress's built-in scheduler (WP-Cron) to keep your contacts up to date.
- Import Logging: To track this background activity, the plugin creates a dedicated service table in your database (…_sendigram_mail_import_log) to store the import log.
- Data Security: All data exchange is handled securely through Sendigram's REST API, with the WordPress plugin acting only as the initiator of the requests.
Uninstalling the integration
If you choose to temporarily disable the integration, you can do so from your WordPress Plugins menu. Please be aware that deactivating and later reactivating the Sendigram Mail plugin will never erase your default settings or synchronization data.
