Adding Bluehost, Network Solutions or Domain.com domain
If your domain is registered with Bluehost, Network Solutions or Domain.com, you connect it to Sendigram by adding six DNS records in your account. It takes about 10 minutes, and verification usually completes within a few hours.
These providers belong to the same company, Newfold Digital. Register.com works the same way as Network Solutions and Domain.com, so you can follow those steps too.
Once your domain is verified, your emails are sent from your own domain and pass the SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks that Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook require from bulk senders.
Before you start, make sure you have:
- Access to the account where your domain is registered
- A Sendigram account
- Your domain using your provider's own nameservers. If your DNS is managed elsewhere (for example, Cloudflare), add the records there instead. See Troubleshooting below.
Step 1. Add your domain in Sendigram
- Sign in to Sendigram.
- Open the profile menu and select Sender settings.
- Click Add domain.
- Enter your domain name, for example yourbrand.com, and confirm.
Sendigram shows the DNS records for your domain. Keep this window open, or come back to it later from the domain's View action. You will copy each record into your provider's account in Step 3.
Step 2. Open your DNS records
Follow the steps for your provider in a new browser tab.
Bluehost
- Sign in to your Bluehost Account Manager.
- Go to Domains and select the domain you added in Sendigram.
- Open the DNS tab. You will see the Manage Advanced DNS Records section.
Network Solutions, Domain.com and Register.com
- Sign in to your account and go to your domain list.
- Select the domain you added in Sendigram (on Domain.com, click Settings next to it).
- Scroll down to Advanced Tools and expand it.
- Click Manage next to Advanced DNS Records. If a notice appears, click Continue.
Leave existing records as they are. You only need to add new ones.
Step 3. Add the Sendigram records
Add all six records from Sendigram: three DKIM records, one MX record, one SPF record and one DMARC record. For each one:
- Click + Add Record.
- Select the record Type shown in Sendigram.
- Fill in the host and value fields as described in the table below. Bluehost calls the host field Host Record. Network Solutions and Domain.com call it Refers to. The value field is Points to for CNAME and MX records and TXT Value for TXT records.
- Leave TTL at the default.
- Click Add (or Save on Bluehost).
Important: Your provider adds your domain to the host automatically. If Sendigram shows a host such as sendigram.yourbrand.com, enter only sendigram. Otherwise the record ends up at sendigram.yourbrand.com.yourbrand.com and verification fails.
| Record | Type | Host | Value |
| DKIM (x3) | CNAME | The part before your domain, ending in ._domainkey | Copy from Sendigram, one value per record |
| MX | MX | sendigram | feedback-smtp.us-east-1.amazonses.com, Priority 10 |
| SPF | TXT | sendigram | v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all |
| DMARC | TXT | _dmarc | v=DMARC1; p=none; |
Always copy the values from your own Sendigram window. The table shows how each field maps, so check your screen if anything differs.
Already have an SPF record? You don't need to change it. Bluehost adds its own SPF record by default, but it sits on your root domain. Sendigram's SPF record sits on the sendigram subdomain, so they don't conflict.
Already have a DMARC record? Bluehost usually adds a default DMARC record. If the list already has a TXT record with the host _dmarc, keep it and skip the Sendigram DMARC record. A domain can only have one DMARC record.
Step 4. Verify your domain in Sendigram
- Go back to Sendigram and open Sender settings.
- Find your domain and click Check DNS records.
With these providers, DNS changes usually take a few hours and can take up to 48 hours to spread globally. If the check doesn't pass right away, wait a while and click Check DNS records again.
Once your domain is verified, add a sender address on that domain in the Sender address tab and start sending.
Troubleshooting
- Bluehost won't let you edit DNS records. Bluehost may show a notice that the domain needs a hosting product assigned before you can edit its records. Assign the domain to your hosting plan, or contact Bluehost support.
- You can't find Advanced DNS Records, or your records have no effect. Your domain probably uses nameservers from another provider, such as Cloudflare or your website builder. Add the six records at that provider instead.
- Verification still fails after 48 hours. Compare each record with Sendigram, character by character. The most common cause is the domain repeated in the host field (see Step 3). Also check for extra spaces at the start or end of a value.
- A CNAME record can't be saved. A CNAME can't share its host with any other record. Make sure no A, TXT or MX record already uses the same ._domainkey host.
- Still stuck? Contact Sendigram support and include your domain name, your provider and a screenshot of your DNS records.
